Creating Bold Stories and Art with Heart, Purpose, and Authenticity.

Letter of the Week

Meet the woman behind the mission

Gemma Flora Ortwerth (she/her) is a writer, artist, and social work graduate student based in Baltimore. She is completing her MSW at Capella University, with a concentration on trauma-informed and disability-centered care.

Her work approaches art as activism, spanning multiple forms including writing, digital media, and physical drawings and paintings. She is the author of Reparations, Not Rhetoric and The Seeker and the Seven Animals, with fiction forthcoming in Sinister Wisdom. Her story Drowned Angels was awarded Story of the Month by Flash Phantoms, and her essays, books, and visual art have reached wide audiences across platforms such as Medium and Tumblr.

At the core of her work is the belief that creativity is more than expression. It is a tool for collective care, a challenge to silence, and a way to spark systemic change through imagination and storytelling.

Note from the Author:

The words you’ll find here are drawn from my own lived experience, study, and advocacy. They are meant as reflections and invitations to think, not prescriptions. I am not a licensed clinician, and nothing on this site should be taken as medical, psychological, or legal advice.

If you are navigating mental health struggles, please reach out to a licensed professional who can walk with you in the care you deserve. This space exists for storytelling, solidarity, and resistance—not as a substitute for professional help.
